Amal Clooney Thinks Pink for a Nighttime Maternity Moment
After speaking at the United Nations yesterday in a vintage Christian Dior suit that was designed by Yves Saint Laurent, the human rights attorney Amal Clooney dressed the bump with a girlish twist last night in Manhattan. This is a departure for Clooney, who thus far has stuck with a largely black-and-white palette during her pregnancy, including a stellar black-tie moment in Atelier Versace. What set Clooney’s look apart from the rest last night was the mixing of feminine hues and the texture of her individual pieces, bringing a new sense of contrast to her pregnancy style.
Clooney has never shied away from wearing saturated jewel tones: from her scarlet red custom Maison Margiela dress for the Met Gala to an electric green minidress for the New York Film Festival, the human rights attorney knows how to make an entrance in bold colors. But Clooney took a softer tack for a private dinner in the city by layering bubblegum hues. Her dusty pink topper lent a tailored finish, while a fluid, crocodile skin–motif velvet dress underneath added texture and old-world charm. Amping up the look was Bottega Veneta’s tonal top-handle tote, which provided a ladylike finish along with simple black stilettos.
